Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fix my broken ring/necklace?

All Workmanship and Materials Guaranteed

Any piece suffering from damage due to normal wear and tear or an error in the production process will be replaced or repaired. for example, if a band breaks due to normal wear and tear, a stone falls out due to the prongs not being tightened down enough. Also, if a stone gets damaged or cracks due to the quality of the stone, we will replace the stone. Please contact us to have your piece evaluated.

If you visit our show schedule page you may find us at a show near you to evaluate your piece on the spot. Replacing stones, broken chains, or broken earrings can be done on site at all shows. Broken bands or other damage to the silver/gold bases must be done back in our workshop in Sugar Loaf, NY.

Handcrafted designs do not hold up to having the stones changed. Unfortunately, if you choose a ring in the wrong size, but love the stone, we cannot remove the stone once it is set. It weakens the prongs on the ring which can lead to problems in the future and it can damage the stone.

Why Does Sterling Silver Jewelry Tarnish?

Unlike rust, tarnish is a ‘self-limiting’ patina, affecting only the top few layers and ultimately protecting the metal. Over time, any sterling silver jewelry piece exposed to air will tarnish. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. It’s the other metals, primarily copper, that cause sterling silver to tarnish.

Silver tarnishes faster in areas with high humidity and air pollution. Chemicals like hair spray, perfume, deodorant, body lotion, bleach, as well as other products, can speed up the tarnishing process. Be mindful to keep silver away from rubber, vinegar, olives and fruit juice.

How Do I Clean my Jewelry at Home?

At Home Polishing and Care

NO Liquid Cleaners. NEVER clean your pieces in a LIQUID jewelry or anti-tarnish cleaner. We DO NOT recommend using a store bought “silver sealer” or anti-tarnish treatment as it damages the finish on the jewelry.

  • Store your sterling silver jewelry in a cool, dark place away from sources of sunlight, heat and moisture. To reduce scratching and tarnishing, store your pieces in the small bags we provide or a jewelry box.

  • Don’t leave silver jewelry in the bathroom unprotected, and do not wear it the shower, swimming pool or hot tub.

  • After taking off your silver jewelry, clean it with a dry soft cloth, or polishing cloth, before putting it back into a jewelry box or the bags we provide

  • If the polishing cloth doesn’t remove all the tarnish, wash silver jewelry in warm water with a few drops of mild dish washing liquid. Immerse the sterling silver in the water and gently hand wash. Use a cotton swab for tight corners, or a soft baby toothbrush can be used for more abrasive cleaning if needed.

  • Thoroughly rinse your pieces after washing, and completely dry the sterling silver before storing, as moisture is one of the factors that contribute to tarnishing.

One of the best ways to keep sterling silver beautiful is to wear it.

How Do I Wear an Ear Cuff?

Our ear cuffs are designed specifically to fit halfway down, around the "helix" and the "antihelix", where the cartilage is usually the firmest. Unless you are buying one of our ear cuffs with chain you do not require any piercings to wear an ear cuff.

How Do I Put an Ear Cuff On?

Position yourself in front of a mirror so you can see your ear. Start at the top of the ear cuff where the cartilage is thin and slide the ear cuff all of the way flush onto the ear at the opening in the cuff ring. Holding the ear taut with your other hand usually helps the cuff slide more easily. Slide the ear cuff down to the middle of your ear, while simultaneously turning it toward your face. This helps guide the ear cuff over the ridge in your cartilage and to drop into the canal where it needs to sit. A test of whether the ear cuff is on correctly is to pull it to the side (horizontal with your shoulders). If you feel resistance, it is on correctly. If it comes off, you need to readjust the cuff. Ear cuffs should not pinch or feel uncomfortable to wear. Once you wear your ear cuff you should almost forget it is there. Always be cautious when removing tight clothes, scarves, or brushing your hair with an ear cuff on.

To readjust an ear cuff
Use a pair of jewelry pliers or needle nose pliers to gently make minor adjustments to the fit of the cuff. Always remove the cuff before making adjustments. If you feel as if you can’t get the fit quite right, please visit our Show Schedule page to see where you can find a Moon Angel near you for a fitting.
